Il faisait trop chaud pour aller se promener, alors, à l'ombre, j'ai réalisé ma première peinture sur châssis entoilé. C'est un autoportrait. Maman a d'abord installé un chevalet devant un grand miroir, je me suis observée et j'ai tracé les contours de mon visage au crayon à papier 4B sur la toile. Ensuite, nous avons déplacé le chevalet à l'extérieur et j'ai commencé à peindre. Comme l'acrylique sèche rapidement, j'ai dû faire attention à ce que je faisais. C'était un peu stressant et j'ai eu peur de tout rater. Quelques consignes de maman pour tenir mon pinceau efficacement... et après une application et une concentration totale, j'ai terminé mon portrait par une touche de lumière dans les yeux. C'est très différent de la gouache ou de l'aquarelle. Je n'imaginais pas pouvoir réaliser une toile.

In Nashville at the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital the walls are full of self-portraits that sick children have done. I know they make the other sick kids happy because they are so bright and colorful.

Clara! This is FANTASTIC!!!!!! I adore it!!!! You have such a great style of painting. I think your mother should hire you to do illustration for her! ;) Really... you work at a much higher level than your age. You are very talented. I wish my students could see what you painted!
